I have to choose a new email address for my curriculum vitae, therefore it has to look serious and professional.

First of all, it will include my surname, e.g. "(name)doe@gmail.com", if the surname is "doe".

About my name, I would prefer not to insert my full name due to several reasons (e.g avoiding identity theft), so I would go with its first letter followed by an engraved dot and the full surname (e.g. j.doe@gmail.com), but it has already be taken by someone else.

So I would go for the first two letters of the name followed by an engraved dot and the full surname, like in the following example:

  • given that the name is Jonathan Doe, I would use jo.doe@gmail.com instead than jonathan.doe@gmail.com and j.doe@gmail.com (already taken).

Does it sound like a professional email address as well? Or should I put my full name instead?

  • Thank you for the comment. In the thread you linked there is no mention to the particular case I'm referring to: using the first TWO letters of the name (instead than the first one or the complete name).

  • @franz1 Stack Exchange strongly prefers general questions over the specific as they end up being more useful to future readers; in particular, the suggested duplicate gives that general guidance as to "what makes a professional e-mail address".
