Two-fold question here:
First, I have orders from the military to ship out right after my employer has a paid holiday week (24 Dec - 2 January). I have to ship out the 6th of January. If I don't give notice until after the holidays, I can get the paid vacation, which is a fair chunk of change. If I give 2 weeks, I'll likely not get the holidays paid. My employer and bosses don't know I have orders yet, but my military affiliation has been disclosed to HR. I'd like to be able to get a good recommendation, but it will be more than a decade before I return to civilian employment, if at all.

Second, I'm leaving after about 8 months of employment. I accepted a signing bonus for 7.5k, contingent on me staying a full year. Because I'm leaving for military service, is it likely I'll have to pay the bonus back? I work for a major defense contractor. I have no contractual obligation to give any notice.

Thanks!
