My girlfriend works for a small dog training business. Her "contract" has a statement that she cannot work for or start another company within 70 miles. This seems unreasonable to me. For one, this is highly anti competitive and you cannot reasonably bind someone to change their locale in a field which they have acquired paid education to be certified to work in. Moreover, the state is small enough that this would make something around 2/3 of the state inaccessible and yet it's a virtual certainty that the vast majority of business does not come but from within 20 miles.
Is this reasonable and would it stand were anything to happen?
Thank you.
