I have been working as an AS400/RPG programmer for the past 5+ years. Now I would like to move onto some technology which is more modern. Along with the RPG programming language, I am also familiar with SQL (Though not an SQL Ninja).

Also, I do understand general programming stuff like conditions, loops, a bit of object orientation etc. etc.

I was thinking about learning Splunk and moving into a related career.

Can you please advise of this sounds like a good move? Does learning Splunk require extensive use of modern technologies such as Java/Web development etc. ?

Also, can one make a career out of Splunk alone? Would knowledge in something additional be required along with Splunk?
