I'm based in the US (and from the US) and have about 20 years of experience, mostly in management consulting for mid-sized boutiques. Between that, I also had a corporate strategy type job for 5-6 years. About 1.5 years ago, I got laid off. Since then, my job hunting has not been going well. I know how to job hunt "properly" and network, etc. I have a part-time contractor role, so that is good.
I've had three final-round interviews at three different companies but didn't get the job. Feedback on my performance has been positive. But, otherwise, out of 100s of applications on LinkedIn (and InMails to HR and hiring managers), I generally don't get a response. My personal network hasn't led anywhere for jobs.
Now, I am running out of money. I am considering a temp agency for now (I'll take any job). I am also considering "dumbing down" (hate that term) my resume so that I might be attractive for other kinds of jobs (e.g. project coordinator associate, marketing associate). But I can't realistically change my LinkedIn profile, which shows my actual, not "dumbed down" experience. I fear I will also be competing with recent grads or recent MBAs for those roles, so that is not necessarily an easier job search either.
I'm not sure what to do. Do I close my LinkedIn account and quit looking for work in my field at my "level"? Should I take temp agency work and keep looking as-is for a while longer? I can live without a lot of money, as thankfully I have a place to stay for free.
Any advice?
