We have a laid back manager in a finance company. However, during the past couple of weeks he's been somewhat ignoring me and the team. My team members morale is at an all time low, 3 out of 4 are actively seeking other jobs and have made my manager aware.

I've spoken to him. I like what I do and don't feel like changing jobs right now. I get along with my colleagues and I try to constantly hear them out. I'm the nerd of the team, I write sql queries, data analysis, build spreadsheets, reports, etc, and they do more day to day finance-related work.

I'm afraid that they might let all of us go. We have weekly meetings and I always give a small recap of what's going on related to Jira tickets and what not. But in general, I have less work than everyone else in my group. I feel for my team mates and sometimes I try to help, but my manager and his boss have expressed that they do not want me to do "paperwork".

So I'm stuck. I feel like I might get fired soon. I'm not worried about a job. I've never had trouble finding a job. However, I don't like the atmosphere, I don't like being unproductive and have a hard time finding things to do. I've even asked other managers to see if they have things for me to do and they've all happily given me stuff.

We recently finished a company wide project and a very large business deal, both of which I was heavily involved in so I feel like I've contributed. However, I don't know if I should speak to my manager, start looking for other jobs, speak to his boss or just chill out and see what happens. Has anyone else had this experience before?
